LYMPHATIC MASSAGE

What is Lymphatic Drainage Massage (LDM)?

Lymphatic Drainage Massage (manual lymphatic drainage) is a slow, light pressure, rhythmic massage that is used to increase the movement of lymphatic fluid from the lymphatic system to the circulatory system then the urinary system, where it can be flushed out of the body.

What is the Lymphatic System?

The lymphatic system is part of the immune system. It is a large network of lymphatic vessels, lymph nodes, lymphoid organs, lymphatic tissue and lymph (the fluid in the system). The lymphatic vessels and most of the nodes are just below the surface of the skin.

What is Lymphatic Drainage Massage good for?

Pre and post operative support, fluid retention, swelling, lymphedema, weight loss, seasonal allergy support, cold and flu season preparation, detoxification, beauty enhancement, relaxation, sleep disruption, anxiety

What is a session like?

The session will consist of 1 body region (upper body, lower body, or abdomen).  The region of focus will be draped during the session. The pressure is very light, and the hand motions are very slow and small.  Many people fall asleep. By the end of the session you will be able to visually see a reduction in fluids in the area.  Over the 2-3 days that follow you will continue to remove fluid through urination.

How many sessions are needed?

After the first session there will be a visible decrease in fluid retention. Each person’s systems starting state will dictate how many and how often the massage is needed. Typically, 1-4 sessions on a particular region are needed.  Pre-operative lymphatic drainage is highly recommended.  It will decrease post-op pain, swelling, decrease healing time, and get your system ready for the procedure.
